HAUNTED LODGE
From the first weekend visit, the housemates noticed that the house
had a weird, unwelcoming feeling. It had a darkness to it that made
you feel uncomfortable in every room. Then things started happening.
Lights would flicker for no apparent reason, and one bulb exploded on
the wall. Lights and heat were turned off, suddenly turned back on.
A rocking chair began to rock all by itself as witnessed by many people
in the house. Then things became a bit more disturbing. Knocking noises
could be heard late at night from all throughout the house. There were
whispering noises that were unexplained in the wee hours of the morning.
One housemate claims to have been thrown out of bed twice, and another
claims to have seen a pot moving around on a table.
The housemates were now becoming more and more frightened by the different
occurrences, but decided to ignore it and not give it much thought.
They hoped that by doing this, the activity would stop. Then there was
a breaking point. One housemate went up to the lodge alone with a girlfriend
that was sensitive to spirits from some childhood occurrences. He did
not inform the girl of the odd occurrences to prevent her from being
frightened and leaving immediately. The moment she entered the house,
she demanded that they not sleep on the bottom floor because it just
did not feel right. Later that night, they were upstairs in bed and
the noises started. They heard doors slamming down stairs, and whispering
noises. They were frightened beyond belief since they were alone in
the house and these things could not be explained. After a sleepless
night, the young friends were sitting around watching TV the next day
when the girl said that she had to leave the house immediately. She
would not explain at the time why she had to leave so urgently. She
later described what felt like a hand tapping on her shoulder, and when
she looked at her boyfriend, his hands were on his lap. This was the
last straw for that housemate. He did a little research online and called
John Zaffis. John Zaffis and PRSNE researchers Brendan, Barri, and Ed
headed to the mountains for an overnight investigation.
It was about 10 pm on a Friday night when three of the housemates,
John Zaffis, and the PRSNE researchers arrived at the house. At about
midnight, everyone gathered upstairs around the fire as a pervading
feeling of unease filled the house. The lights were turned off and a
spirit communication began, lead by John. The air in the room became
extremely heavy with isolated patches of very cold air. It felt as though
there were small chilling clouds moving through the room, and yet there
was a roaring fire that was more than adequate heating the given space.
Each question was followed by the phrase of, "One tap for Yes,
two taps for No." The first few questions received no response.
About 10 minutes into the communication, clearly audible taps could
be heard in response to the questions. Rustling noises were heard in
an upstairs bedroom and were heard by all present. A faint whisper of
many voices at once could be heard coming from the downstairs kitchen,
but everyone in the house was upstairs during that time.
As the questioning went on, John turned to the three housemates and
asked which one would like to ask questions. One housemate volunteered
and the response was aggressive. During one of the questions, the feeling
of the room shifted and a researcher felt a feeling that they were engulfed
by a cold force.
The second session had less activity associated with it. A housemate
asked the questions, but the thick feeling was gone. The third session
was started at about 3:00 am. The same thick feeling was back and the
tap answers were more audible and intense. The same housemate started
asking questions, but this time he was joined by another who was now
comfortable asking questions. The responses were quick and clear. At
one point in the questioning, the toilet flushed in the upstairs bathroom
while no one was near it. When asked whether that was the spirit, it
responded with one loud bang from the back of the room.
The young men hoped that this house would be the perfect weekend getaway,
but they have not been able to enjoy their mountain retreat.
